GPT Image 2.6 guide
GPT Image 2.6 is the flagship image model in the Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash studio. It turns a written brief, a product photo, or a handful of references into a native 2K visual, and it is built for the loop real work needs: generate, inspect, adjust one thing, generate again. This guide covers what the model is good at, how to direct it, and where it fits next to the other image models in the studio.
Most image tools are judged on the first render. GPT Image 2.6 is tuned for the second, third, and fourth version: the adjustments that move a decent visual to a shippable one. You describe a scene or a change in plain language, such as "replace the background with a sunlit studio" or "same product on a pale stone surface", and the model recomposes materials, light, and setting in one pass.
It accepts a text prompt on its own, or a prompt plus up to four reference images on the Image to Image tab. Output runs at 1K for drafts, native 2K for production, and 4K for print-quality finals — sharp enough for packaging, posters, and product pages.
Name what stays and what changes — the model treats the brief as a spec, not a suggestion.
Supply up to four references and the model holds identity, materials, and palette across the edit.
Labels, posters, and signage come back readable — brief words render cleanly in frame.
A reliable prompt names four things: the subject, the setting, the materials, and the light. "A ceramic pour-over set on a walnut table, morning window light, soft shadows, editorial product photography" gives the model more to work with than "nice coffee photo", and it gives you something concrete to change on the next pass.
For edits, state what must stay before what must change. "Keep the product, label, and camera angle — replace the background with a marble counter" protects the details that matter. For text in frame, quote the words and say where they live: the label reads "COLD BREW".
For revisions, change one variable at a time. If a render is close, resist rewriting the whole prompt. Re-run with a single adjustment, then compare. Because the studio can render several variations at once, you can test two phrasings side by side and keep the better one.
Image to Image is where GPT Image 2.6 separates itself from a plain text-to-image tool. Upload a product photo, a portrait, or a key visual and describe the change — the model edits on top of your composition instead of inventing a new one.
The most common uses are background and lighting swaps, outfit and material recolors, and placing a product into a lifestyle scene. For best results use clear, well-lit images with a readable subject, and give each reference a role in the prompt when you attach more than one.
The studio hosts several image engines, and picking the right one saves credits. Use GPT Image 2.6 when direction and consistency matter most: product edits, typography, and reference-guided finals. GPT Image 2 is the faster everyday tier for quick drafts, and Seedream 5 Pro is the compositing specialist for heavy multi-reference work.
Switching models does not mean switching tools. The same prompt and reference set carry over, so you can draft a visual on one engine and finish on another.
OpenAI offers GPT Image generation in two tiers: Flare, the fast and lightweight engine for everyday image work, and Sunburst, the quality-optimized engine for the most demanding, precision-focused edits. Both tiers take the same inputs —text prompts, reference images, aspect ratios, and 1K–4K output.
Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash studio runs the Flare engine —picked for turnaround: renders return in seconds and the credit estimate is shown before every run. The model’s direction control, multi-reference editing, and legible text cover the precision work most briefs actually need.
Every generation shows its credit estimate before you run it, and the estimate changes as you pick a resolution. A practical workflow is to explore at 1K, choose a direction, and only then run the 2K or 4K final. If a generation fails on our side, its credits are refunded automatically. New accounts start with free credits, and paid plans include commercial usage rights for what you generate.
